Charlotte and Becca were nearly home.
They’d been gone all day–Charlotte was on set for a movie. Rose, Lucy, Stuart and Ivy, (who’d been bored and asked to come over) had more or less occupied themselves. (Emily had stepped WAY outside her comfort zone and taken Yank over to play with Lissie.)
“Can you believe it? They gave me a part!!!” exclaimed Becca.
“Mmhmm.” replied Charlotte. Becca turned to her.
“But Charlotte–isn’t that good? They wanted me!”
“I’m glad you were able to get some experience, but Becca…you were an extra.”
Becca had ordered a milkshake at a 50’s diner set while Charlotte, who was not the main character, but still relatively important, had talked to another character in the foreground.
“Yeah, but still! Not everyone can jump right in and be a fill-in extra!”
“Why in the world did you have a whole 50’s poodle skirt outfit in your backpack?”
“I went to a 50’s themed party!”
“Oh…wait, how long ago was that?” Charlotte asked, attempting to recall the details of that long ago event.
“I don’t clean out my backpack as often as you, okay?”
Charlotte shrugged and smiled.
“C’mon, let’s go see what everyone’s been up to.”
Giggles and thumps could be heard from Stuart’s bedroom, so that’s where they headed.
Becca walked in, followed by Charlotte.
“Oh!!!” cried Becca.
“What?” asked Charlotte.
“See for yourself!” Becca replied. The others waved now and then, as each noticed to two older girls had arrived, but then continued what they were doing.
They both took a good look.
Rose was sitting serenely on Stuart’s bed–in a dress. Rose, who always proclaimed her dislike for dresses.
Usually quiet Stuart was jumping up and down on his bed, while playing with the poodle with poor eyesight that he’d asked the human to get rid of. All this while occasionally interjecting into Ivy and Lucy’s conversation.
Ivy, although she’d previously told Charlotte she dislike having her hair mussed, was wearing a fancy hat.
Lucy was wearing a shirt of Stuart’s as part of her outfit.
Not nearly as odd as the other 2, but still a little strange.
Charlotte asked Rose something while Becca stared into space. This was wierd.
Suddenly, the four from the younger set raised their hands.
“Soo Gus Flaut!” they said.
“Soo Gus Flaut!”
Then they were silent.
Charlotte looked puzzled, and Becca looked utterly confused.
Then Charlotte smiled. “You guys are so goofy! It’s not even the right month! And it’s late!”
Soon Becca understood, too, and the entire room was laughing.
So…what was so funny? Do you know?
